BUY A PUREBREED DOG

My purchase of a purebred dog did not condemn another dog to death.
My purchase of a purebred dog did not cause an increase in the number of dogs in the shelter.
That I wanted a dog with a predictable temperament of healthy lineage did not cause another dog not to be adopted.
My meticulous research and the support of the most responsible breeders is not the problem.
It's not what you should be mad at.
It's not what you should be blaming.
I'm not the one who brought these dogs into the world irresponsibly and dumped them in a shelter. Responsible breeders aren't the ones putting dogs in shelters either.

A reputable breeder offers lifetime support. A reputable breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter to begin with. A reputable breeder has a contractual obligation to return the dogs they have produced to you in the event that you are unable to keep them.
It is understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you look deeper, you will find that your anger is misplaced.
If you take a deeper look, you will find reputable breeders and those of us who buy from them are just as angry, we are just pointing out the right causes.

It is my home, my life and my choice of what type of dog to bring. Maybe I needed a working dog, a sporting dog or just a companion puppy to breed a breed I enjoy. No matter the reason, my decision to support a reputable breeder did not send a shelter dog to its death.
A breeder who performs health testing, temperament testing, pedigree studies, proves to be a dog worthy of breeding and only breeds when doing so benefits the breed does not contribute to the number of homeless dogs.
The number of homeless dogs in the world is a problem, but it is not a problem exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who buy from them.

Your neighbor down the street who refuses to contain their unaltered dogs is contributing to the problem.
Your friend who bought a dog on impulse at PetLand IS contributing to the problem.
That guy on Craigslist who throws out the trendiest designer combination as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem.
Your relative who just HAS to let her dog have a litter "so she can experience motherhood" or because "she's so sweet" IS contributing to the problem.
Your former high school classmate who bought a high energy working breed without taking the time to research its needs and realize it wasn't a good fit for your home ahead of time IS contributing to the problem.
